Not What Expected
I ordered the sourdough fruitcake this year thinking it was the traditional one I have always loved from you. I am very disappointed as it is dark and burnt around the edges with a burnt flavor. It is also very greasy. I believe I may have ordered the Abby cake before…as the cakes I got every other year were the best I had ever eaten…other than those made by my mother yeard ago. I lived in Houghton area over 20 years ago and love the Jampot. I will return and hope that next year I can again live the cake I get. Maybe if this wasn’t so burned and burnt flavor I would still enjoy…next year I’ll try the Abby cake. ..maybe that is my favorite. So sorry to send such an unfavorable review… I’m sorry! I also ordered a box of jams.. tasted the wild thimbleberry..my favorite and only get up in the UP… It is So..o..o Good! Can’t wait to taste the other jams! Still sad about the Fruitcake, though.

The cakes are made as if your granny baked them on the farm. They come wrapped in cheesecloth and have that wonderful homemade quality. They are the best, most delicious cakes I’ve ever eaten. I have been researching monastery fruitcakes for years and most have preservatives or other disappointing ingredients. These cakes are made with the highest quality ingredients, many sourced from farms, and often organic. (Check the ingredients link on their website.) My search for cakes is over now that I’ve discovered these. I’ll be a lifelong customer so I do hope the monks will continue their baking for a long time. God bless the monks of Poorrock Abbey.
